My little man turned 2 back in May and I have been on the long journey of potty training. It always seems girls learn faster than boys and that is the case with my niece. She was born 3 weeks behind my son and she is already using the toilet like a champ. My son on the other hand is dragging his feet. He has with everything…
Sleeping for example he didn’t start sleeping through the night till almost two years old.
Using forks and spoons he always wanted to be feed…
If he can find a way for someone to do something for him he is completely content.
Unfortunately for him he is on his own for toilet training.
When toilet training it is always important to buckle up because these tiny humans will push every button you have. There goal is to have you shred a tear. They want to break your spirit. As parents we can’t show weakness we need to stand tall and show these toddlers what we are made of.
Note: It is acceptable to cry in a closet or behind closed doors. As long as they don’t see you.
Now my son is a particular little man. I have bought 3 different toilets and one urinal. After a lot of trial and error we settled back on the first option. He picked out his own underwear, has his own sticker chart and gets a construction or monster truck stickers if he goes to the bathroom. Now let me say each child is different and this is kind of working for mine so I’m sticking with it. He has some accidents, he refuses to poop in the potty, he runs, hides, and tells me “NOOOOOOO LIKEYYYYYYY!” My philosophy is he will eventually get there.
There is no need to stress over potty training. Each kid is unique and will be ready in their own time. Consistency is important but as long as you keep trying they will learn eventually. Even the tough little nuggets.
