What Does It Mean To Be Barebones?

Everyone has their own definition of barebones but for me it is all about setting the bar low. Basically I live by barely surviving. So what does that entail? I make sure none of my kids died, they are fed, clean and happy. Why do I live this way? I feel it’s the best for my mental health. I am a full time mom and I work 40 hours a week. I have a 2 year old son that keeps me on my toes and a daughter with a new diagnosis of ADHD. Being a parent is hard.

Mental health is important. No one talks about how stressful being a parent can be. It’s important to find a parenting style that works for you. If I tried to keep up with all the new learning activities I would be exhausted. Mentally and physically. Some parents can do it all and that’s great. I’m just not that parent and that’s okay. We all want the best for our children but we each have different approaches and that is okay. It doesn’t mean you’re a bad parent if you aren’t up on the latest learning trends. Kids need love and support. They appreciate you being their and listening to them.

Life is to short to worry about what I should have done or did I do the right thing. Sometimes you need to make time for yourself that doesn’t mean you are neglecting your children. It helps you become a better caregiver. This week take an hour or even 10 mins to do something for yourself. It could be meditation, yoga, a workout, a walk, reading a book, a face mask, or a bubble bath but do something for you.
